Health Funds

I am a registered healthcare provider with all major health funds. Instant rebates are provided via HICAPS at the Newtown clinic, and can be claimed with your invoice from the Alexandria clinic. Rebate amounts vary depending on the level of cover that you have, so it's advisable to contact your health fund to find how much your rebate is.

Treatment duration

Your appointment can vary from 30-60 minutes because the primary focus will be on treatment effect rather than time allocation. However, please allocate 60 minutes for your initial consultation, as a review of your overall health will be conducted in addition to an in-depth discussion of your objectives.

Frequency & timelines

Treatment frequency will depend on the severity of your symptoms and the how long you experience relief. A good rule of thumb is that the next treatment is needed as soon as the treatment effect starts to ‘wear-off'. This is because the best progress is made when we build on the improvements from the previous session, working towards becoming symptom-free. When a trajectory of effect is established, more time in-between treatments will be possible without slowing down progress. This may mean that you are receiving more frequent treatments to begin with, but often less total treatments will be needed to get you well.

What clients ask

  • I aim to help you to feel better as quickly as possible. There is no way to predict how quickly your body will respond to the treatment, so we will discuss your progress at each consultation. I will recommend an appropriate length of time between consultations. You should expect to see significant progress within 3-4 treatments.

For chronic conditions, you may need more treatments initially to restore your health before moving to a maintenance plan.

Note: problems that have developed over time often require time to resolve.

Many patients find periodic maintenance visits every few months helpful for keeping the body balanced.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) distinguishes itself through a profoundly patient-centric philosophy, prioritizing the holistic treatment of the individual rather than narrowly focusing on specific disease processes or isolated symptom sets. While patients typically present with particular health concerns, the therapeutic journey often culminates in a noticeable and general improvement in overall vitality and systemic well-being.

This approach is especially valuable for those who have found symptomatic treatments inadequate, as TCM is adept at identifying and addressing the underlying imbalances that constitute the root cause of the problem.

Consequently, TCM offers a comprehensive therapeutic pathway for individuals seeking to understand and resolve the foundational origins of their health issues, alongside alleviating any current discomfort.

  • While Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is generally considered safe, its practice in Australia is robustly governed by stringent regulations, a commitment to evidence-based efficacy, and meticulous quality control for all therapeutic materials. Although rare adverse reactions can occur, as with any health treatment, the Australian regulatory framework ensures practitioner accountability; individuals must hold approved qualifications, maintain registration with AHPRA, and be members of a professional association.

Empirical evidence supports TCM's long-standing success in addressing various health complaints, further substantiated by reviews such as the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA)'s assessment of acupuncture's efficacy and cost-effectiveness.

To uphold these high standards, only sterile, single-use needles from quality-assured manufacturers are employed for acupuncture, and all practitioner-prescribed herbs and supplements undergo stringent testing and evaluation by reputable independent bodies, securing approval from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

This comprehensive oversight and dedication to professional standards collectively underscore the responsible and effective delivery of TCM therapies within Australia's healthcare system.

  • Acupuncture treatment is indeed accessible during pregnancy, though it is crucial to inform your practitioner promptly upon suspecting or confirming pregnancy. This disclosure is vital as certain acupuncture points are contraindicated during gestation, necessitating a tailored approach to ensure patient safety and therapeutic efficacy. Despite these specific considerations, acupuncture is a widely utilized and well-regarded complementary therapy throughout pregnancy, offering significant support; it can effectively alleviate various common pregnancy-related symptoms and promote overall maternal well-being as you progress through each trimester. Therefore, with appropriate communication and a customized treatment plan, acupuncture serves as a safe and beneficial modality for managing symptoms and supporting health during pregnancy.

  • The provision of healthcare services commonly extends to pediatric patients, necessitating a tailored approach where treatment protocols are meticulously adjusted to account for their specific age, size, and developmental stage. This commitment ensures that interventions are both effective and safe for younger individuals, recognizing their unique physiological and psychological needs. Furthermore, it is a mandatory requirement that all children under 16 years of age be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during both consultation and treatment sessions, thereby ensuring informed consent and comprehensive support. This integrated approach underscores our dedication to delivering high-quality, compliant, and patient-centered care for our youngest demographic.
